Akihabara Radio Kaikan
An iconic Akihabara building with figure, manga and merch shops; free entry, spending depends on purchases.
Akihabara Radio Kaikan is the most iconic building in Akihabara, the otaku district of Tokyo, and the perfect starting point to explore the culture of anime figures, manga and collecting in the capital. This ten-storey building houses more than thirty specialist shops that sell everything: scale figures, gunpla plastic kits, collectible cards, manga, comics, cosplay, posters and official merchandise of the most popular series. Shops such as AmiAmi occupy entire floors with thousands of references. Entry to the building is free; the spending depends on what you take home. It generally opens from 11:00 to 20:00. It is one minute from the Electric Town exit of JR Akihabara station, opposite the main crossing. It is a good place to start the tour of Akihabara before exploring the vintage electronics shops, the maid cafés and other collecting buildings of the district. Events and product launches are held in the space on the tenth floor.
