Gyukatsu Motomura Shibuya

Tokyo · Shibuya · Gastronomy

A famous gyukatsu place near Shibuya; a breaded beef menu around 1.300-1.500 ¥.

Gyukatsu Motomura is the undisputed destination in Tokyo to try gyukatsu, the breaded and fried version of beef that has soared in popularity in recent years. The concept is simple and delicious: the beef is coated in panko and fried briefly so that the outside is crispy and the inside stays almost raw. At the table a small hot volcanic stone and various sauces await you so that you can finish cooking the meat yourself to your taste, from very rare to well done. The menu includes barley rice, shredded cabbage, miso soup and potato salad, so the dish is complete. The price of the standard menu is around 1.300-1.500 ¥, which makes it a quality option at a reasonable price. The Shibuya branch is a few steps from the famous crossing and always generates a queue; if you want to avoid waiting more than an hour, arrive at opening (11:00) or visit the Harajuku branch. Payment is cash only. No reservations are taken.
