The National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno is one of the most complete and spectacular museums in Tokyo, with more than 25.000 pieces on display covering from the origin of the universe to the evolution of life on Earth. The crown jewel are the full-scale dinosaur skeletons in the basement, with a Tyrannosaurus rex and a Triceratops that impress adults and children alike. The Global Gallery building explores science and astronomy with models of the solar system and fossils of extinct species, while the Japan halls focus on the unique ecosystems of the archipelago. A standout element is the Theater 36°, a spherical 360-degree panoramic cinema. Admission costs only 630 ¥ for adults; under-18s and over-65s free. Hours: 9:00 to 17:00 (until 20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays), closed on Mondays. It is in Ueno Park, a few minutes from the Tokyo National Museum. A full visit requires between two and three hours.
