Origami workshop Asakusa
A simple origami workshop for beginners in the Asakusa area; classes from around 1.500-2.000 ¥.
Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding: from a single square sheet, with no scissors or glue, figures are created ranging from the iconic crane to complex three-dimensional sculptures. The origami workshops in Asakusa are designed for beginners and families, and are a fun and accessible way to connect with traditional Japanese craftsmanship during a trip. The sessions usually last between 30 and 60 minutes and are held in small groups or privately, always with an instructor. The best-known space is Taro's Origami Studio, a few steps from the Sensoji temple, where you can follow the process through tablets with step-by-step animations as well as the teacher's guidance. The price of the workshops is around 1.500-2.000 ¥ for the shorter sessions; Taro's Studio charges around 4.200 ¥ for a more complete 45-minute experience. To get there, take the metro to Asakusa (Asakusa or Ginza lines). It is a perfect plan for all audiences, especially for families with children from 5 years old, and the result —the folded figures— is a lovely souvenir made with your own hands.
