Take part in an authentic tea ceremony next to the Kenroku-en garden, with a licensed master who explains each step; admission around 2.000 ¥.
Kenroku-en, considered one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan, is the perfect setting to discover the tea ceremony. In this experience, a licensed tea master performs the temae before you, the ritual of preparing the matcha, explaining the meaning of each movement and the philosophy of hospitality behind it, before you enjoy your own bowl of tea accompanied by a traditional sweet. It is a serene and beginner-friendly activity, designed for foreign visitors and lasting about an hour. Admission is around 2.000 ¥. It takes place next to the Kenroku-en garden, so it is very easy to combine it with a stroll through the garden, Kanazawa castle or the 21st Century Museum, all a few minutes away. It is advisable to book the slot in advance. It is an ideal plan to understand first-hand one of the most representative traditions of Japanese culture in one of the cities that best preserve their historic heritage, far from the crowds of Kyoto.
