Thermae-Yu Shinjuku
A premium urban onsen in Kabukicho; admission 2.400-3.000 ¥ depending on the day, with several baths and a relaxation area.
Thermae-Yu is the largest and most popular urban onsen in central Tokyo, located right in the Kabukicho district of Shinjuku. Unlike many central thermal establishments, it uses real natural thermal water, with relaxing properties beneficial for the skin. The complex includes several pools at different temperatures, a salt sauna, volcanic-rock baths, an outdoor area with a jacuzzi and ample rest areas where you can stay for hours reading or simply resting in a yukata (the cloth bathing wear provided). Admission costs around 2.700 ¥ on weekdays and a little more at the weekend; at night (from midnight) a supplement applies. The rock bath has an additional cost. It is open from 11:00 to 9:00 the next day. To get there, leave by the east exit of Shinjuku and walk about 10 minutes, or use the metro to Shinjuku-Sanchome (exit E1, 3 minutes). Tattoos are usually prohibited. It is the perfect plan to end an intense Shinjuku afternoon with a session of total relaxation.
