Tokyo Tower Main Deck — Tokyo

Tokyo Tower Main Deck

Tokyo · Tokyo Tower / Shiba-koen · Viewpoints

Tokyo's classic red tower; access to the main observatory costs around 1.200-1.350 ¥.

Tokyo Tower is the most iconic symbol of the Japanese capital: a red-and-white steel tower 333 metres tall inspired by the Eiffel Tower that was built in 1958 as a symbol of Japan's post-war economic revival. Although today the Skytree surpasses it in height, Tokyo Tower retains a charm and nostalgia that the new generation of viewpoints does not have. From the Main Deck, located at 150 metres altitude, the views of Tokyo are magnificent and the distance at which you can see Mount Fuji on clear days is surprising. The Main Deck has two floors with a restaurant, souvenir shop and a window in the floor that is a little vertiginous. Admission to the Main Deck costs 1.500 ¥ for adults. It opens every day from 9:00 to 23:00. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays you can climb on foot up the 600 stairs instead of taking the lift. To get there, use the metro to Akabanebashi (Oedo line) or Onarimon (Mita line). It is especially beautiful at night, illuminated in orange and white, and is seen perfectly from Shiba Park, a few metres from the foot of the tower.
