Yoyogi Park
A huge park next to Harajuku and Meiji Jingu; free entry and lots of weekend events.
Yoyogi Park is the liveliest park in Tokyo and the locals' favourite place for outdoor leisure. With 54 hectares next to the Meiji Jingu shrine and the Harajuku district, this free park is open 24 hours and hosts almost every weekend international cultural festivals (Thai, Indonesian, Brazilian, Okinawan...) with live music, food and free activities. On weekdays it is a paradise for sport and relaxation: groups doing yoga, families with picnics, cyclists, street musicians and dancers improvising near the Harajuku entrance. In spring, the cherry trees turn the park into one of the best hanami spots in the city. Entry is always free. It is reached in one minute from Harajuku station (JR Yamanote line) or from Yoyogi-koen (Chiyoda line). Ideal to combine with a visit to the Meiji Jingu shrine, Takeshita Street or the Ota Museum of ukiyo-e art.
