Craft beer tour of Naramachi and Todai-ji
Guided walk through Todai-ji and Naramachi ending with a tasting of local Nara craft beer; from around 3.500 ¥.
This tour combines the best of historic Nara with a modern gastronomic touch: a guided walk through the most emblematic places of the city, rounded off with a tasting of local craft beer. The route usually includes the Great Buddha of Todai-ji temple, one of the most impressive monuments in Japan, and a walk through the streets of the mercantile Naramachi district, with its traditional wooden houses. The highlight comes at the Naramachi Beer brewery, where at least one craft beer made in the area is included, a little-known side of Nara that surprises most visitors. The tour starts at around 3.500 ¥ and usually lasts half a day, with a guide and small groups. It is advisable to book in advance. It is a more relaxed alternative to purely cultural visits and a good plan for those who want to get to know the city and, along the way, its local beer scene. Naramachi is about a 10-15 minute walk from Kintetsu Nara station.
