Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum
The most moving museum in the world about the atomic bombing; adult admission 200 ¥.
The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is one of the most moving museums in the world, dedicated to documenting the atomic bombing of 6 August 1945. The main building, raised on pillars to preserve the view of the Dome in the background, divides its halls into two sections: the first puts the Second World War and the decision to drop the bomb into context; the second shows personal testimonies, objects belonging to the victims —watches stopped at 8:15, scorched clothing, children's clothes— that turn the figures into concrete faces. The visit lasts between an hour and a half and two hours. Admission costs 200 ¥ for adults and 100 ¥ for minors. An audio guide is available in Spanish. The museum opens from 8:30 to 18:00 (until 20:00 in August and 17:00 in winter). Closed in the first days of January. It is a ten-minute walk from the Genbaku Dome-mae tram stop (lines 2 and 6). Combine it with a tour of the Memorial Park that surrounds it.
