A modern museum opposite the castle that explains the evolution of the city from ancient times.

The Osaka Museum of History occupies a modern ten-storey building located opposite Osaka Castle, on the very site where the palaces of Prince Shotoku stood in the 7th century. In fact, during the construction of the museum, archaeological remains from that period were found, which can now be seen in the building's basement. The museum recounts the history of Osaka from ancient times to the modern era through models, full-scale replicas, historical objects and interactive exhibitions; the upper floors, which correspond to the oldest periods, are especially striking for their reproductions of temples and palaces. From the highest floors there are direct views of Osaka Castle, which lets you photograph the historic keep from a privileged angle. Admission costs 600 yen for adults. The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 to 17:00 (until 20:00 on Fridays), closed on Mondays. To get there, take the subway to Tanimachi 4-chome (Tanimachi and Chuo lines). It is a two-minute walk from the museum. Combine it with the visit to the castle to make the most of the trip.
