An interactive museum with many science experiences and a planetarium, ideal for families.

The Osaka Science Museum, also located on the island of Nakanoshima next to the National Museum of Art, is a space designed to enjoy science in a hands-on and entertaining way, especially with family. Four floors of interactive exhibitions cover the universe, electricity, energy, chemistry and natural phenomena; visitors can touch, handle and experiment directly with the devices on display, which makes it one of the most active and fun museums in the city. One of its strengths is the planetarium, with projections of the night sky in a large-format dome; the sessions take place several times a day and have a fare additional to the general admission. Science shows with live demonstrations are also held throughout the day. The museum opens Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 to 17:00, closed on Mondays. Admission to the museum costs around 400 yen for adults; the planetarium has a separate fare of around 600 yen extra. To get there, take the subway to Higobashi (Yotsubashi line) or to Awaza (Chuo and Sennichimae lines); the museum is about a ten-minute walk from both stations.
