Day trip from Fukuoka to the famous hot-spring towns of Yufuin and Beppu, with Beppu's steaming hells; tour from around 9.000 ¥.

Yufuin and Beppu are two of the most famous hot-spring destinations in Japan, in Oita prefecture, and this day trip from Fukuoka lets you visit them without the hassle of trains and buses. Beppu is famous for its jigoku or hells, steaming hot springs of intense colours that are not for bathing but for contemplating, such as the cobalt-blue pond or the blood-red one, a true natural spectacle. Yufuin, on the other hand, is a quieter, more charming mountain hot-spring town, with a pretty lake, streets full of craft shops and cafés and views of Mount Yufu. The tour starts at around 9.000 ¥ and usually lasts all day, with guide and transport included; some variants add the Dazaifu shrine on the way. Bring comfortable shoes and, if you want to take a hot-spring bath, check beforehand whether the itinerary leaves time for it. It is advisable to book in advance. It is a perfect getaway to discover the thermal heart of Kyushu in a single day starting from Fukuoka.
