Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki class
Learn to prepare Hiroshima-style layered okonomiyaki on a teppan griddle, with a guide; class from around 3.000 ¥.
Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki is one of the most emblematic dishes of the city, and very different from that of Osaka: here the ingredients are not mixed, but cooked in layers (thin batter, a mountain of cabbage, pork belly, yakisoba noodles and egg) on the griddle. In this class, next to Hiroshima station, an instructor teaches you step by step how to build and flip your own okonomiyaki on the teppan, with explanations about the history of the dish and the use of the famous Otafuku sauce. At the end, you eat it freshly made. The class starts at around 3.000 ¥, usually lasts between an hour and an hour and a half and is given with English support, suitable for all ages. It is advisable to book the slot in advance. It is a very entertaining activity, ideal for families and for rainy days, and a great way to take an authentic Hiroshima recipe home. Its location next to the station makes it very easy to fit in on arrival or before taking the train to Miyajima.
