Orizuru Tower (viewpoint and origami cranes)

Hiroshima · Naka-ku / Memorial Park · Viewpoints, Workshops

2.200 ¥ per person

Skyscraper with a viewpoint facing the Genbaku Dome and an interactive cascade of origami cranes; admission 1.700 ¥.

The Orizuru Tower, opened in 2016, is the modern building closest to the Peace Memorial Park and offers two unique experiences: a viewpoint with direct views of the Genbaku Dome on the 12th floor, and an interactive art installation where visitors fold their own origami crane and add it to a cascade of paper that continuously grows inside the building. The origami crane (orizuru) is Hiroshima's symbol of peace, immortalised by the story of Sadako Sasaki. Admission costs 1.700 ¥ for adults (700 ¥ for minors). The building also houses an open-air terrace with bar service in summer and shops selling local crafts and origami. Hours: 10:00-21:00 (last entry at 20:30). It is reached by tram to Genbaku Dome-mae (lines 2 and 6), a two-minute walk away. The best time is dusk, to see the Dome in natural light and then illuminated at night.
